Gravel vs. Straight Salt

What is the difference, is one better than the other?

When it comes to deciding on how to keep your parking lots safe during the Winter months, it’s important to understand the options that are available:

Gravel (Pickle Mix): The Digging Dutchmen applies a gravel mix called ‘Pickle Mix’. This mixture is a combination of 7mm gravel and salt – a great option for our Calgary Winters! The combination of the gravel mixed with the salt adds traction and melting to icy areas.

Straight Salt: Applying Salt to any icy parking lot will help melt the ice in no time – as long as it is not to cold! Salt is very effective, but not once our temperatures start to dip past -10 degrees. So why go with salt? With this application, you won’t have gravel build up and the salt helps keeps the parking lots down to concrete!
